Every Tuesday morning, our jail team teaches reentry skills to female inmates at Travis County Correctional Complex

We have a dedicated prayer team who not only prays for the ministry, but responds in writing to prayer requests from inmates 

we mentor

We are in the process of structuring a mentoring program for the women to continue their growth when they are released

We partner

We are stronger together! We are teaming with Travis County Chaplain Services and various resources in Austin to provide help for these women

What do we teach?

Ascend Life Skills is all about teaching women about freedom and value in Christ. Each week of our 6-week curriculum is stand-alone, yet at the same time builds upon previous weeks. Each week we teach a practical tool + a Biblical truth.If a woman completes all 6 weeks, she receives a certificate of completion and a gift.

Setting a new direction + learning to recognize shame-based thinking that keeps you enslaved

Week 2

How to search for and land a job + toxic relationships

Week 3

Being an awesome employee + Healthy boundaries in relationship

Budgeting + Will God forgive me, and how can I forgive others who have hurt me?

Week 5

Sex Trafficking + How your view of your earthly father can impact your view of God the Perfect Father

Week 6

Addiction + My Exit Plan

Who are we?

Our team is an amazing group of women who love God and love the marginalized. We currently have 13 women who go into the Travis County jail on Tuesday mornings, and about 25 women involved in our prayer/letter writing ministry.

We are involved in many churches across the Austin area (Austin Stone, Gateway Church, One Chapel, Mosaic Church, Greater Mt. Zion, Expression Church, Westlake Hills Presbyterian, and more).

Are you someone who has experienced God's love and deliverance, and would like to be used to lead others to the same peace and joy? We LOVE complicated, flawed lives that God is in the process of redeeming. Many on our team are recovering from addiction, trauma, and difficulties. We need teachers, table leaders, administrative leaders, mentors, prayer warriors, and letter writers. In-jail and mentor volunteer requirements:

  • female, at least 25 years of age
  • 5 years clean from felony convictions (more details on this if needed)
  • 3 years of sobriety
